Title | Floral Still Life with Robin |
Description | This beautiful 19th century floral still life oil painting is by noted German/Austrian artist Johnann Georg Seitz. Painted circa 1850 it is a mixed floral arrangement in a terracotta vase on a ledge. Around the base are several fruits, a copper butterfly and a robin. Seitz only occasionally added a bird to his still lifes and it makes them all the more special, especially this being a robin with all its symbolism. Details such as the bloom on the plums and gleam on the red currents are superb. This is a really excellent example of Seitz's work and a great Victorian floral oil painting with echoes and skill of Dutch Old Masters. Signed lower left and indistinctly dated. |
