This lovely 17th century Old Master floral oil painting is attributed to the circle of noted Franco Flemish artist Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer. Painted circa 1670 it is a still life of a basket of tulips, roses, orange blossom, a poppy, hyacinths and other flowers, on a stone plinth, beside honeysuckle and an apple and grapes in a landscape. The colouring and brushwork are superb and it is in great condition for its age. |

Biography |
Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer (12 January 1636 – 20 February 1699) was a Franco-Flemish painter who specialised in flower pieces. He was attached to the Gobelins tapestry workshops and the Beauvais tapestry workshops, too, where he produced cartoons of fruit and flowers for the tapestry-weavers, and at Beauvais was one of three painters who collaborated to produce cartoons for the suite The Emperor of China. |
