Description | This stunning British Victorian floral still life is by 19th century born artist Henry John Livens. Painted in 1880, the setting for this colourful floral arrangement is the forest floor and bank with wild violets growing amongst the moss and leaves. Various clusters of flowers of primroses and apple blossom lie on the forest floor. There is also a basket of roses and a terracotta pot of mixed heather beyond. Amongst all this floral beauty to the left is a mossy bird's nest with eggs. A really vibrant example of a British Victorian floral still life in a natural setting with superb detail and brushwork. Signed and dated 1880 lower right. |

Biography | Henry John Livens (1848-1943) was a direct descendant of Jan Liebens of Holland. Jan Liebens left to go to London to paint the portrait of the King, some time in the 1600's. Livens, born in 1848 was a British artist of landscapes and still lifes active in London. He died in 1943. |
