Title | The Market Place Venice |
Description | This beautiful and detailed British Victorian watercolour painting is by noted British artist Thomas Ellison who exhibited at the Royal Academy and British art institutions. Painted circa 1900 it is a stunning example of an early British watercolour and one of Ellison’s best works. The subject matter is a busy market in Venice Italy, painted in great realistic detail and lovely subtle muted colours. The detail in the wicker baskets and vegetables for example is superb. Women sit by their colourful vegetable stalls under canvas awnings while a young boy leans to drink from the fountain as a man lifts a basin of water. Pigeons lazily peck around in the foreground. This is a stunning watercolour painting in excellent condition, behind glass and a housed in a lovely frame.. Signed lower right. |
