Title | Highland River Landscape |
Description | This superb very large British Victorian landscape oil painting is by much sought after landscape artist John Brandon Smith. Painted circa 1870 the composition is a rocky Scottish Highland river landscape painted from the perspective of the middle of the river and one of his favourite subjects to paint. In the foreground is a fisherman with his wife watching him from the near by lane. In the middle ground a somewhat precarious bridge crosses the river and beyond that the Scottish countryside spreads out to mountains in the distance, all beneath a lovely summer's sky. The details in the rocks and gushing water are superb. This is a first rate example of John Brandon Smith's landscape paintings and a lovely 19th century oil painting. Signed lower left. |
