Description | This stunning romantic exhibited Scottish Edwardian Impressionist portrait oil painting is by noted Scottish artist James Wallace. Painted in 1908 with excellent provenance, the brushwork and colouring are superb. The sitter is Elsie Viola Robinson, the fiancee of the artist. The composition is a full length portrait of Elsie and her Old English Sheep dog in a Lincolnshire landscape. She is eagerly waiting for her fiancee, hence the title, The Rendevous. She poses in a plumed hat and beautiful dress with a spray of violas attached, her name's sake. A tremendous painting and an excellent example of Wallace's work.
