Description | This lovely portrait oil painting is by Scottish exhibited artist Allan Newton Sutherland. It was painted in 1914 and is a seated portrait of a young Scottish girl with auburn hair and a blue hair band with flowers. A very sweet painting and a lovely example of Scottish portraiture. Signed upper right and dated 1914. |

Biography | Allan Newton Sutherland (1885-1918) flourished 1908-1918. Aberdeen painter, mainly portraits. Moved to Glasgow c 1913 and then eventually returned to Aberdeen. Sutherland died in WW1 aged 33. Despite such a short life he was already a committed artist and was exhibiting regularly, especially at the Aberdeen Artists Society in his home town. Exhibited Royal Scottish Academy 2, Royal Society of Watercolour Painters 2, Aberdeen Artists Society 15, Glasgow Institute 8 including 'Lord Provost Taggart'. |
