Title |
Portrait of a Gentleman Writing a Letter. |
Description |
This superb British Regency Old Master portrait oil painting is attributed to the circle of Sir Henry Raeburn. Painted circa 1800, it is a three quarter length portrait of a seated gentleman. He has a carnation in his button hole and is holding a pen and paper. Perhaps he is about to write a letter, or a poem or perhaps it is indicating that he is a man of learning. There is great sympathetic detail in his face which is beautifully illuminated. A charming painting by a very talented artist. |
