Description |
This exquisite Pre-Raphaelite portrait oil painting is attributed to a follower of British 19th century artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. He was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and a precursor of the Aesthetic movement. Executed by a very skilled hand, the painting is a half length portrait of a young woman, dressed in white, her head covered and dates to around 1890. She is gently holding two white doves to her bosom and there are two large sprays of almost translucent white lilies either side of her. She is set in front of a patterned background of shades of brown and pink. Her brown eyes gaze quietly at the viewer and her red lips are closed. The painting is housed in the most beautiful frame that is just perfect for it. It is the sort of image one could gaze at for a life time. |
