Description | This colourful still life Art Deco oil painting is by noted British artist Charles Buchel. Painted in 1932 it is entitled Still Life of Leeks. Although primarily known as a portrait painter, Buchel also painted other genre and this is an excellent example. A wonderful bunch of leeks, complete with roots and waxy leaves, are hung on a wall above a plate, candlestick and various fruit. Buchel has perfectly captured the changing colour of the leeks stem and leaves and the froth of white roots, all buzzing with life. Signed and dated upper left. |
