Description | This superb Impressionist original oil painting is by Scottish artist Joseph Morris Henderson and dates to circa 1900. The painting depicts summer fields with wild flowers and cattle a joining a wide river. A bridge crosses the river and to the left are dwellings and a ruin in the background. The Auld Brig at Ballantrae in Ayrshire is a particularly fine example of Henderson's work.

Biography | Joseph Morris Henderson (1863-1936) - born Glasgow 1863, son of the artist Joseph Henderson by whom he was strongly influenced. Studied at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art. His style absorbed much from romantic Victorian realism and he dedicated himself to landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes. He exhibited throughout his life primarily in Scotland. He was elected an Associate member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1928 and a full member in 1935. |
