| Description | A stunning large oil on canvas by British nineteenth century artist Arthur William Redgate who was a Nottinghamshire based artist. He was a noted rustic landscape painter and he specialized in these sort of Nottingham landscape scenes. This one portrays a gypsy encampment with a pony and donkey in the foreground. Very polished and in excellent gallery condition - a very good painting painted in a realistic 19th century style. He is a well collected artist whose works are often on display at galleries who exhibit at the art fairs. Signed lower right A W Redgate. |

| Biography | Arthur WIlliam Redgate (1869-1906) - landscape and figure painter who exhibited between 1860-1906. He was a member of the Nottinghamshire Society of Artists from 1881 and lived in Nottingham from 1880. Redgate was a respected British landscape painter of the late 19th century.
