Biography | Wilhelm Schwar (1860-1943) was primarily a painter of genre scenes. He was born in 1860 and worked in Munich. Wilhelm painted in a meticulous, realistic style, which is very recognisable and hardly changed throughout his career. There are few amongst the late 19th Century painters of cats and dogs who ever achieve such a high level of meticulous detail. Schwar is applauded amongst experts and collectors for his remarkable ability to combine detail with relaxed form and character, leaving little doubt as to his importance with this subject. The coats and features of his animals are remarkably believable with the eyes of his cats and dogs looking so real to the point that a sudden move on the viewer’s behalf would have them focused upon you. Every hair, though random in design, gives a groomed look to his animal clearly stating their cared and domestic status. Even the autumn leaves within this scene curl wearily with magnificent glow from his autumn’s palette. Schwar’s works are beautifully executed and are very popular amongst private European collectors. |
