Description | An original large oil on canvas which has various labels verso attributing it to Richard Wilson. It is housed in a fine gilded 18th century frame and it depicts travellers around a cooking pot with a capriccio ruin to the right. It has been suggested that the artist is the Irish landscape artist George Mullins. The painting dates to circa 1760 and is in good condition. This is a fine country house 18th century landscape in a fine carved frame. Signed right. |

Biography | Richard Wilson RA (1714-1782) was an influential British landscape painter, who worked in Britain and Italy. With George Lambert he is recognised as a pioneer in British art of landscape for its own sake and was described in the Welsh Academy Encyclopedia of Wales as the "most distinguished painter Wales has ever produced and the first to appreciate the aesthetic possibilities of his country". In December 1768 Wilson became one of the founder-members of the Royal Academy. |
