Description This stunning British Victorian oil painting is by noted topographical artist William Parrott. Painted in 1847 whilst Parrott was living in Italy, the location is the Piazza del Nettuno in Bologne. The view is facing the back of the bronze statue of Neptune, with various colourful figures at its base.  Beautiful buildings stretch out on either side beneath a blue sky. A really lovely Victorian oil painting with great perspective.  The busy market with figures and vendors are finely rendered with stunning highlights and impasto.

The Fountain of Neptune ( Italian: Fontana di Nettuno) is a monumental civic fountain located in the eponymous square, Piazza del Nettuno, next to Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna, Italy The fountain is a model example of Mannerist taste of the Italian courtly elite in the mid-sixteenth century.

Signed and dated 1847 lower left and inscribed Bologna.
Provenance Sussex estate.

Frame Housed in a complementary Victorian frame, 38 inches by 29 inches and in good condition.
Condition Good condition.
Biography William Parrott (1813-1875) British topographical painter, watercolourist and lithographer. Visited Paris 1842-3, Rome 1845. Published a set of lithographs, Paris et ses Environs. He is now best known for his Italian views, especially of Rome.

Exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy 1835-63 and elsewhere.
