This lovely British Art Deco portrait oil painting is by noted artist James Robert Granville Exley and provenance is by family descent. The sitter is Elizabeth Exley, possibly his wife. Painted circa 1935 it is a half length portrait of Elizabeth in a red dress, pearls and a fur wrap. She is slightly smiling at the artist/viewer. There is lovely detail in her face and her glossy hair and pearls gleam. The palette and brush work are superb. This is a fine 1930's portrait and an excellent example of Exley's work. |
