Alexander Cree (1929-2014)
Alexander Cree (1929-2014). Born Dunfermline. Painter in oil, pastel and pen; landscapes, interiors, portraits and rustic scenes. Studied Edinburgh College of Art 1946-50 under Robin Philipson, William MacTaggart, Leonard Rosoman and William Gillies. Awarded Grant Scholarship followed by a travelling fellowship 1951-52. Attracted to France and modern French art. From his studio in East Linton, exhibited more than 40 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy between 1950-80, mainly East Lothian landscapes and one or two genre and still life paintings including ours and 10 paintings at the Glasgow Institute.
