Alexander Brownlie Docharty (1862-1940)
Alexander Brownlie Docharty (1862-1940) was a landscape painter based at Kilkerran, Ayrshire. Like his uncle, the artist James Docharty, Alexander had started in calico design. He became a professional painter in 1882, after part-time classes at Glasgow School of Art. He later studied in Paris. Alexander Docharty’s paintings - of the Scottish Highlands and of Europe - are mainly in oil, although he also produced some good waterlcolours.
