Description | An original large Scottish portrait oil by noted Scottish artist Alexander Christie which depicts a portrait of a woman. A superb portrait, it dates to 1925 and is in good condition with bright vibrant impressionist impasto. This is a fine example of an Inter War 20th century Scottish portrait by an excellent portrait artist.

Biography | Alexander Christie (1901-1946). Born in Abderdeen he was a painter in oil of landscapes, interiors and portraits. He studied Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and the Royal Academy Schools gaining a Byrne Scholarship, The Robert Brough Studentship and a Scottish Education travelling scholarship in 1926 which enabled himmto study in France and Spain. best known for his sympathetic and accurate portriats, of which this one for sale at Richard Taylor Fine Art is one. Sitters included Lady Fisher, Archbishop of Caterbury, The Duchess of Sutherland, and Lord Olivier. He exhibited at The Royal Academy in 7, Royal Scottish Academy 4, Glasgow Institute 1. Hos talent was tragically cut short by early death. |
