Title |
Bay Horse and Spaniel in a Lake Landscape |
Description |
This lovely 18th century Old Master oil painting of animals in a landscape is attributed to the circle of animal artist Sawrey Gilpin. Painted circa 1790 it is an absolutely charming portrayal of a bay horse and springer spaniel greeting each other, the dog gazing up at the horse. Indeed the artist has captured that slightly wet look on the dogs coat, as if it has already had a swim. Interestingly, although the dog has a lead around its neck, there are no humans in sight. The animals are standing beneath a tree and beyond them is an expansive lake and landscape bathed in early morning misty light. An absolutely captivating Old Master oil painting of animal friendship in a lovely landscape. |
